This One Thing Will Change Your Life

Have you ever had days where you feel like everything that could get you down, does? Roadblocks keep showing up, feelings of overwhelm takes over, and sometimes just staying in bed under the covers seem like the best option.

That pretty much summarizes my last week. Yes, I said it, even as a Law of Attraction Coach I do experience those moments.  When moments like that show up it forces me to look at my situation and focus on what I want rather than the lack of what I am observing.

There was a time last week where I was absorbing everything around me not knowing exactly what to do or how to handle the issues that were popping up.  It felt like time was standing still and I saw in slow motion all of these problems circling me, and holding me in my position unable to move. Fear and anxiety started creeping in along with their friends worry and overwhelm.  I don’t like them by the way.

As humans we try and control everything.  It’s in our nature to come up with solutions to our problems and find answers even when we don’t know what we’re looking for.  I don’t know about you, but whenever I try and do that I end up even more frustrated than before because it feels like there really are no answers to be found.

A night after my kids went to bed last week I sat out in the backyard.  I took a few deep breaths and focused on my breathing and not on the thoughts coming in and out of my head. I closed my eyes and listened to the sounds of nature.  I didn’t think of my obstacles, I wasn’t trying to find answers, I just sat there and found my connection back to me. Feelings of peace and hope washed over me. I realized how I was not doing enough of this lately.

A few years ago when I was first introduced to meditation I laughed.  I said how can I possibly sit there and be still when my thoughts won’t stop.  Boy was I wrong. Meditation doesn’t mean sitting there for an hour. It doesn’t even mean sitting there for 10 minutes.  It’s nice to work up to those numbers but you definitely can start out with a few minutes each day in order to enjoy the peaceful calming benefits it produces.

To begin, start off by sitting in a comfortable relaxing positon.  Take a few deep breaths and focus on your breathing. The breaths coming in and out of you.  Feel your abdomen moving up and down. When your thoughts show up don’t try and push them away.  Acknowledge them and gently send them off. With practice it will become easier and 1 minute of doing this will lead to 5 minutes, then 10, 20 or even more.  Be easy with yourself. In time when you have those enough is enough moments you will have this simple little tool to help shift you back to a steady point of calmness and a starting point where you can focus on what you want instead of the lack of what you are experiencing. Despite what’s showing up for you, you will be in a place of receiving and listening for the answers to your problems and being open to the unlimited possibilities that will present itself to you.

I’ve realized that everything I am currently experiencing is guiding me back to what I already knew but haven’t done the last few days. I was too busy taking outer actions because I was allowing my negative emotions to dictate how I should handle my situation.  I am in control of how I feel. Although I haven’t come up with all of the solutions to my roadblocks, I am feeling a lot more peaceful and hopeful about navigating this situation. Being in a place of receiving feels a lot better than trying to force the answers to me.  I know that by coming from this place I am more aware of what feels right for me and what the next best steps are to take.

I invite you to try meditating for just a minute today and in the coming days.  Focus on your breathing and the sounds around you and see if you can increase that 1 minute to 5 minutes by the end of this week.  Have a wonderful week and remember to take the time to BREATHE.

Xoxo,
