3 Ways to Use Affirmations To Claim Your Power And Boost Your Confidence

Affirmations offer a powerful way to create changes in your life. Affirmations are positive statements that help you focus your awareness on your ability to create what you want as well as expand your awareness of what you can have.

When I first heard about affirmations I didn’t believe they did anything.  With that said can you guess what happened? They never worked for me! I gave up on them before I could understand the true transformation they could provide. That is until I started working with them again but this time the results were so much better.

When you are around people that hurt you and disappoint you, your sense of self-esteem and confidence diminishes.  Whether it’s someone you’re in a relationship with, a co-worker, your boss or a parent it happens. And if you’re reading this and thinking, I have great confidence, my self-esteem is perfect then I hate to say you’re full of crap. Let’s get real here, we’ve all had moments where a little part of us got smaller and smaller, shying away from opportunities and people.

When you’re around someone that strips away at you little by little in other words you feel negative emotions over and over when you’re around them, the value you have in yourself becomes smaller.  When you give someone else your power by allowing them to hijack your feelings, you begin to give up control of your life. You begin to start listening to that ego.

When I was living with my alcoholic father, I gave him all of my power.  My self-worth, my self-esteem and my self-love. I allowed him to dictate how I was feeling and how I thought about myself and my life.  I made it all about what he was doing to me and how it made me feel.

Now anyone that has been in a similar situation understands how easy that is to do.

How easy it is to be carried away by the momentum and all of the wrong being done. When you do that long enough, you begin to find yourself experiencing the same feelings just in different situations.

It’s a repetitive cycle that keeps on happening unless you make the decision to create something new. And that’s exactly what I did.

So how can you use affirmations effectively to claim your power back and boost your confidence?

1. Pick one affirmation a week and feel the words as you read them.  Feel the words vibrating from your body as you say them. Feel your heart beating as you say the words, connecting with each one.  I can tell you now, that if you don’t believe in the words you’re saying you’re going to waste your time and then proceed to say I’m Crazy.

That’s why it’s so important to pick affirmations that resonate with you. You can tell if it resonates by the way you feel when you read them.

 2. Next, choose your affirmation and repeat it for 68 seconds as you say it. The 68-second process is by Abraham Hicks.  Abraham states that when you focus your attention on something specific for 68 seconds, the vibration created is powerful enough to begin the manifestation of it.  With that said, set your timer for 68 seconds and start repeating your chosen affirmation over and over.  This sounds so elementary school but this is a very powerful process because here is where transformation can occur. As you stay focused on this affirmation and create an energy around it you will begin to give the words an intense power.

Here are some of my favorite affirmations:

  • "I am willing to feel good"
  • “I release anything that is not for my higher good.”
  • “Everything is always working out for me”

  3. Next up you will set your timer again for another 68 seconds and write down your affirmation statement within that timeframe.  Writing things down is focused action and when you can put your attention and focus on something, you create an energy around it that is effective in making transformational changes. Again, this simple yet effective process helps to create new beliefs.

When you combine these three steps together you lay the foundation for cultivating new beliefs and making them your reality.

Give yourself permission to be easy on yourself. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes.

When you choose words that are uplifting and inspiring and make them part of your daily life, you form new beliefs.

Beliefs that help you create the kind of life you want and only YOU can create.

In addition to the affirmations above, what other ones might you use in your daily practice?

Xoxo,
